Station 5 Hotel
Southside - Fort Worth, Texas
Station 5 is an adaptive reuse proposal that transforms the historic 1911 No. 5 Fire Station, a designated landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, into a vibrant mixed-use hotel at the heart of Fort Worth’s Near Southside. Originally constructed in the Early 20th Century architectural style, the firehouse once housed generations of firefighters whose bravery helped protect and shape the city—most notably during a devastating blaze that tested the limits of civic resilience. Today, the building’s preserved façade stands tall and proud, forming the emotional and physical core of a five-story, 110,000-square-foot hotel.
The project includes a full-service restaurant, rooftop pool, meeting and event spaces, 3,800 SF of retail, 2,900 SF of dining, and an integrated parking structure—all woven into a design that reverently preserves the building’s legacy while elevating its role in the community.
Working in collaboration with the City of Fort Worth, Fort Worth South, Inc. (FWSI), and the Cultural Landmarks Commission, the development team embraced the FWSI Strategic Plan and Design Principles, ensuring Station 5 promotes a walkable, vibrant, and historically respectful urban experience.
Key design responses include:
-
Pedestrian-Oriented Urban Form: Street-level activation through retail and transparent public frontages supports the district’s human-scale urbanism.
-
Multimodal Accessibility: The design balances walkability with an integrated parking structure to serve diverse users and mobility needs.
-
Architectural Integrity and Innovation: The original firehouse is preserved and highlighted, with modern hotel structures designed to complement, not compete with, the landmark.
-
Community and Cultural Relevance: By aligning with FWSI’s mission, Station 5 supports neighborhood vitality and the local economy while offering diverse hospitality and event options.
-
Sustainability Through Reuse: Adaptive reuse of the historic structure minimizes environmental impact and reinforces urban density.
Station 5 is a bold but respectful reinvention—a place where architectural preservation meets 21st-century hospitality. It is both a tribute to Fort Worth’s past and a model for its future: a landmark reborn as the cornerstone of community, culture, and design innovation.
