Slick City Action Park is getting ready to open a fourth Houston-area location, this one in Webster, at Interstate 45 and NASA Parkway.

A franchisee for the indoor slide park has leased just under 35,000 square feet at 20750 Gulf Freeway in the Clear Lake Center shopping plaza. It announced the future opening on social media last month.

Slick City Action Park first entered the Houston Market in December 2023 with a location in Katy Mills Mall. A second opened in December 2024 in Willowbrook Plaza, at 17355 Tomball Parkway in northeast Houston near Willowbrook Mall. A third indoor park is underway at the Dudley Sports Plaza building at 3905 FM 1488 at Kuykendahl Road in The Woodlands area, expected to open in March, and another location is planned for Humble.

The corporate-owned Slick City in Katy was one of the company’s first locations besides Denver and St. Louis. The Willowbrook location is also corporate-owned, while the Woodlands and Humble ones are franchised to Christopher and Mandy Bush, said Gbolade Odeneye, who manages the Webster location together with Tomi Dania under Odenia Entertainment Group.

Slick City founder and CEO Bron Launsby began franchising the concept in February 2024, the St. Louis Business Journal reported. Today, there are at least 35 Slick City Action Parks either open or coming soon across 17 states, according to the company website.

Each indoor “waterless water park” features between eight and 12 slides, some of which can be more than 20 feet tall. The slides’ friction is as similar to water as possible, resulting in a smooth, fast and dry slide, Launsby told the St. Louis Business Journal.

In addition to slides, Slick City parks have sport courts with bouncy surfaces, playground structures, miniature go-carts and zip lines.

The Webster location will have 11 slides, Odeneye told the Houston Business Journal.

The franchisee signed the lease in September and started construction on Dec. 1, Odeneye said, adding that they are adding an about-3,000-square-foot mezzanine. The hope is to open by late April. Grapevine-based Type-Six Design & Development Services is listed as the design firm for the project.

The space was previously occupied by furniture and appliance chain American Freight, which announced in November 2024 that it was closing all of its 370 stores, including six in Houston, as part of Delaware-based Franchise Group Inc.’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan.

The 394,000-square-foot Clear Lake Center in Webster is anchored by a 151,000-square-foot At Home and a 91,000-square-foot Floor & Décor and also includes Hooters and James Coney Island restaurants on frontage road-facing pad sites. A separate adjacent shopping complex features an Altitude trampoline park, Game Preserve video arcade, Reno’s Karaoke & Pool Bar and Goodwill Thrift Store & Donation Center.

Slick City is the latest entertainment concept coming to Webster, joining Great Wolf Lodge, which opened in August 2024; Chicken N Pickle, which opened in February 2024; and Cosmic Air Adventure Park, which opened in November 2024. Also planned are Andretti Indoor Karting & Games and the 12,500-seat Sunset Amphitheater, while Cinemark Webster is adding one of the country’s first Gamescape concepts, to include bowling, gaming, laser tag and event space along with a full-service bar and restaurant.
